On Saturday, 9 May 2020, in the morning at 10:18, in Utenos district municipality, Ripaičių village, on the Lamėstas–Plaučiškės–Kirdeikiai regional road (kilometre 5.20), an Opel hit an obstacle. Three people died — the 23-year-old driver of the Opel, a 33-year-old passenger of the Opel (was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 30-year-old passenger of the Opel (was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Opel (3 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. A 24-year-old passenger of the Opel was drunk (1.78‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
